The steep banks that run down to the river Aman from Alexandra Terrace in Cwmaman have long been known as local fly-tipping area. Over several years, rubbish has been thrown over the terrace fence and slipped gradually down the 100ft slopes to the river path below. However, in September 2009, AVCA took on one of its biggest projects yet, aiming to clear the banks in just one week.
The woodland along the Aman Valley is rich in wildlife, especially birds. To help maintain this fantastic feature of the local area, AVCA are installing and monitoring bird band bat oxes each year to support local wildlife and to give local people the opportunity to enjoy spotting birds and bats along the Aman river.
The River Aman is a beautiful free-flowing waterway which runs 5km from high up beyond Cwmaman down to meet the River Cynon below Cwmbach, near Aberdare in South Wales.
